Just like skin care, hair care is also very personal. As a beauty editor with coarse, thick, curly hair, I can honestly say that I’ve tried a lot of products that just didn’t work for my hair. But after finally finding the right products, my hair health changed for the better. Now I’m pretty knowledgeable about what works and what doesn’t for my hair type, but I still love trying new things, especially ones with a good name like Beyoncé. I like it. We were able to get our hands on a few items from Beyoncé’s new hair care line, Cécred. I will share all my opinions about the product later in this article.
For those who don’t know, here’s a fun fact. Beyoncé’s mother was a hairstylist who ran her own salon. Growing up, Bey spent a lot of time sweeping floors and watching her mother transform her clients’ hair using a combination of both mainstream products and textured hair knowledge. She credits much of what she’s learned about her hair up to this point in her life. Little did she know that they would then collaborate to launch a results-driven hair care brand that puts the needs of hair texture first.
Bay was always thoughtful and intentional in everything he did, so I was excited to try this line. I knew that if she were to launch a hair care product, it would be something to behold. Keep scrolling below for my honest thoughts on everything I’ve tried with this brand.

Clarifying Shampoo & Scalp Scrub
It was the first product from this brand that I tried. Normally I don’t like to use cleaning shampoos more than once a week or once every few weeks, but for the purpose of this review, I decided to start using this on my cleaning days. This deeply cleanses the scalp with ingredients like fermented purple willow bark, gentle exfoliants, and tea tree oil. My hair didn’t feel stripped after using this, but it wasn’t very moisturized either. Keep this in mind if you have naturally dry or coarse hair. I really liked this formula because it removes all the product buildup on my scalp. But to be honest, there are other cleaning shampoos out there that are a little less drying. If this gets stuck and your hair is prone to dryness, I recommend limiting the use of this to every other week.

moisturizing shampoo
This was one of my favorites out of the bunch. I have dry, frizzy hair, so shampoo is a category I often struggle with. Co-washing doesn’t clean your hair enough, and other regular shampoos often make your curls brittle and flake. This moisturizing formula is the perfect happy medium. Formulated with hyaluronic acid, phytocollagen complex, and an African oil blend, it deeply moisturizes hair but cleanses it without stripping it. If you’re looking for a shampoo that lathers well and thoroughly cleanses your hair without leaving it feeling dry, this is it. I liked this so much that I will continue to use it as a regular shampoo several times a week.

moisturizing deep conditioner
This deep conditioner is extremely enriched with 12 moisturizing butters and oils. My hair is very dry so at first I thought this conditioner might be good but for some reason this didn’t work for me. Initially, my hair felt very moisturized when I applied it and for a few hours, but the next day my hair looked very dry and lacked definition. Now that I’ve started wearing my natural hair again, curl definition is important to me, and this didn’t quite provide that. It didn’t do much for my coarse 3C curls, but I think it’s great for loose curl types and people with super dry, dry hair.
To be fair, I know this brand wants to put textured hair at the forefront, but it also wants to create products that are suitable for all hair types. This is a difficult feat. Personally, I don’t believe in products designed “for all hair types.” Because I know that products that are suitable for my super dry, coarse, curly hair are likely too heavy for someone with straight, fine hair. I liked this deep conditioner, but it didn’t give me much definition or long-term moisture, so I don’t plan on using it long-term on my super thick hair. I think if the brand came out with a more specific line for tighter curl types, that would be the solution here.

Treatment mask reconstruction
Oddly enough, the Reconstructing Mask worked a little better for me in terms of hydration. It uses a patent-pending bioactive keratin ferment and is specifically designed for hair restoration. Reduces strand damage, increases visible strength and improves shine. This hair repair mask is amazing and smells amazing to boot. I think it’s great for repairing hair. After using this once or twice a week for a few weeks, I noticed that my hair became less frizzy.

nourishing hair oil
A luxurious blend of 13 oils, this finisher is the perfect way to end your routine. Strengthens the hair’s lipid barrier and locks in moisture. Using this in addition to my regular styling products helped keep my hair moisturized for a long time.

Fermented rice and rose protein ritual
This is one of the more expensive products out there, but it offers a lot of benefits in the hydration and strength-building department. The first step of this system includes fermented rice, which is known to strengthen hair breakage and support hair growth. The second step is the brand’s moisturizing silk rinse with a rich African oil blend. I really liked it because it made my hair really soft and shiny, but I’m not sure how often I’ll keep using it because it’s a two-step system so it’s a bit time consuming. Deep conditioning once or twice a week is hard enough, but when you factor in the second step, you’re completely defeated, lol.
My overall thoughts on Secred
I really enjoy these products and think there’s really something about Beyoncé, but I also think there’s room for improvement. I like that this brand is silicone-free and focuses on water-activated hydration, but I think there are improvements they could make to the product to make it a little more curl-friendly. Although these products are designed for all hair types, we think it would be beneficial for brands to consider creating a line specifically for coiled, curly, and frizzy hair, as they require more moisture and definition. Masu.
I love how it smells like you’re in a luxury spa. It’s a unique scent that you can expect Beyoncé to create. It’s warm, exotic, and a little spicy. There are no artificial or strong odors. The prices for each item are reasonable, but be careful as buying three can easily cost over $100.
While there may be some improvements to be made, I’m still very excited about this line and hope the brand continues to evolve and create new products for those of us with thick, coarse, curly hair. I hope that it will produce.
