If using minoxidil or finasteride individually does not produce the results you expected, it may be worth considering talking to your prescribing doctor about combining treatments.
In addition to the Keeps finasteride tablets and minoxidil bundle, this new treatment option combines 5% minoxidil and 0.25% finasteride in a gel. Keeps suggests applying one pump of gel per day to the area and massaging it into the scalp.
Minoxidil 5% is available over the counter, but because it contains finasteride, you will need a prescription to purchase this treatment.
A 2023 study showed that this combination of minoxidil and finasteride performed better when combined than when these products were used alone. Although the study reported “no serious side effects,” a small number of participants experienced scaling, increased hair loss, headaches, itching, and dryness during the first 12 weeks of use.
Note that while 5% minoxidil and 0.25% finasteride are FDA-approved to treat hair loss individually, this particular combination therapy is not FDA-approved.
