Why we like it: As Dr. Mislankar points out (and is supported by several studies), the active ingredient that neutralizes dandruff, ketoconazole, is a hormone that shrinks hair follicles in men. It is considered to be the best active ingredient to combat the byproduct dihydrotestosterone (DHT). -Pattern hair loss. For this reason, dermatologists often recommend it for the treatment of hair loss and dandruff, and I have also used it with success. However, like most products with this active ingredient, I find it drying, so I always keep up the dryness with conditioner to prevent frizz.
Still, I think every man should own this shampoo and use it once a month or once every two weeks to reduce flakes and reduce hair loss due to DHT. Be sure to follow with a nourishing conditioner (and a thickening or volumizing conditioner if you’re looking for results).
