FAQ
Why do curly hair need special shampoos?
Curly hair needs something different than straight hair with shampoo. Here’s why: Sebum is a natural oil produced by the scalp. Curls slow down the rate at which oil travels through your hair. For this reason, curly hair grows with shampoos that cleanse the scalp without stripping the hair of the moisture it needs.
This is why most curl shampoos contain not only cleaning ingredients but also moisturizing ingredients. In addition to that, it helps to avoid harsh chemicals that can cause scalp irritation, such as synthetic fragrances, especially if used in large quantities at once.
How often should curly hair be washed?
How often you wash your curly hair depends on how quickly your hair gets oily. For example, curly hair takes longer to become oily than straight hair.
Some people may find it better to wait a few weeks between washes. In other words, base your washing schedule on your hair. If you want to refresh between washes, you can wash or rinse with fresh water at the same time.
Is it better to wash curly hair at night or in the morning?
There is no right or wrong answer as it all depends on the drying time. Ideally, you will have time to dry your hair after your washing routine and styling. Washing can take several hours, so you don’t want to go to bed with a head full of cold, wet hair, so it’s probably best to start sooner rather than later. Washing in the morning also has the added bonus of showing off your fresh first-day curls all day long.
Is it better to wash hair straightening with hot or cold water?
Ultimately, Olalbia asserts, curly hair should be washed at the temperature you feel most comfortable with. However, Ollarvia says, “If it’s a bright color, be sure to wash it in cold (water) because you don’t want to lose the dye color.” The key to cleansing curly hair with shampoo is to make sure to rinse all the product out, regardless of the water temperature. Rinse curly or coiled hair with plenty of water to dehydrate your hair (and scalp).
Can I wash my curly hair with just conditioner?
Technically, you can’t wash your hair using only conditioner. Olalvia says that while there are some shampoos designed to add moisture (such as co-wash shampoos and moisturizing shampoos), the role of curly shampoos is to cleanse the scalp and hair, while curly conditioners add moisture. It is recognized that it moisturizes and moisturizes. People with curly hair may condition before shampooing to help detangle, but curly hair (like all hair) needs cleansing to remove product, sweat, and oil buildup in the hair. Must be.
