What we like: Rosemary oil is known as a natural anti-inflammatory and antioxidant that supports scalp health and hair growth (some studies say it’s as effective as minoxidil) ). The key ingredients in Nécessaire’s shampoo are rosemary oil, extracts, and water, as well as five fortifying plant proteins and five ceramides that protect the scalp barrier. Our reviewers say it noticeably increased the volume and texture of their thinning hair (the shampoo smells nice too).
Our Review: Although it’s not marketed specifically for curly hair, this shampoo really, really boosted the volume and texture of my curls. Formulated with pure rosemary oil, its refreshing gel-like consistency stimulates the scalp with maximum stimulation and thoroughly cleanses the scalp without stripping it and leaving it feeling dry and flaky. The combination of rosemary, mandarin, jasmine, and cedarwood creates an almost spa-like experience while showering, and I don’t dislike it by any means. This shampoo addresses anti-aging, hair thinning and color safety issues and strengthens hair with ceramides and plant proteins to minimize hair breakage. My curls feel clean, moisturized, and bouncy, and my scalp feels healthier, free from dryness and irritation (it’s non-comedogenic, so it doesn’t clog my pores either). —Jade Brito, Glamor Contributor

What we like: One of the best shampoos for curly hair can be found in the aisles of your local CVS and is much cheaper than its competitors. The main binding ingredient includes citric acid, which helps repair and prevent split ends and hair breakage (a problem faced by many people with curly hair). It also lowers the pH balance of the entire formula, keeping the cuticle closed and preventing frizz.
Our Review: This shampoo proves that you can find the best option for curly hair at the drugstore. My hairdresser recommended this bonding shampoo after noticing that my hair was becoming weaker over time due to heat styling. The gentle cleansing formula repairs each strand, leaving it soft, smooth and protected from future damage. My curls are visibly healthier, with more definition, more bounce, less frizz, and more manageability. It is color-friendly, so it is safe for colored hair. —Breanna Davis, Glamor Contributor

What we love: For truly detoxed hair, we love this one from Hårklinikken. It is part of a larger natural system that prioritizes its role in scalp and hair growth. This shampoo balances the distribution of your hair’s natural oils, reducing oil content and providing even moisture to your hair. Cleans with sulfate derived from palm oil, a milder surfactant with a higher oil content than other surfactants. Experts usually recommend not using sulfates because they are often too drying, but reviewers said they only experienced shine, hydration, and increased volume in their curls. (no accumulation).
