My bathroom is full of celebrity beauty products. I have a nearly empty bottle of LolaVie Glossing Detangler (Jennifer Aniston’s brand) in my medicine cabinet. I have Fenty Hair shampoo and conditioner on my shower shelf. This morning I applied Beyoncé’s Secred Hair Oil to my hair. But for the past week, I’ve been secretly testing out Blake Lively’s new hair care brand, Blake Brown Beauty. Frankly, my hair is crazy about it and has never looked and smelled better.
Blake Brown Beauty is available now at Target stores and Target.com. The line’s two shampoos, two masks, dry shampoo, leave-in conditioner, pre-shampoo mask, and mousse range in price from $18.99 to $24.99.
“I’ve always been interested in hair,” Lively tells Bazaar. “So, thankfully, more opportunities have come to me in the hair care field than in any other field. It’s like more than acting, which is my real job.” It’s blonde and bouncy. Because Lively’s incredibly shiny hair is a celebrity in its own right. “I haven’t changed my hair much. I have a look that I like and it’s become very clear to me,” she says. “If you want to walk down the streets of New York City, you can literally put your hair up in a bun and walk around without people looking twice.”
Blake Brown stands out from other modern hair products, celebrity or not. The first reason is that it doesn’t include conditioner, as Lively herself has never used conditioner. “I started using masks (instead of conditioner) about 20 years ago now. I never use conditioner unless I’m in a hotel and I don’t have enough luggage,” she says. . Conditioner makes your hair feel like you can’t brush it. ”
Instead of conditioners, Blake Brown offers shampoos and masks in two categories: nourishing and strengthening. “I always wash my hair first, then do the mask, do whatever I have time for, and finally wash off the mask,” she says. “If my hair needs a little more love, I sometimes leave a little mask in my hair. I don’t wash it out completely and leave it in my ballerina bun for a few days.”
In my personal testing, the shampoo lathered beautifully and left my hair clean, but it didn’t fall out. The mask feels like a warm wrap around your hair, gliding on it without weighing it down, adding moisture and shine. I can see these finding a permanent home in my shower.

Lively values performance and wanted Blake Brown’s products to be a cleaner, less expensive version of the salon brand she’s used for years. “I wanted to recreate systems and patterns that I already liked, and Kérastase was a real reference point for me,” she says. “Kérastase was a brand that I always loved and that transformed my hair, but it was so expensive.” Blake Brown’s products are inspired by luxury formulas, but cost $25 each. Less than. “I reformulated it in a completely different way, all because I wanted it to smell like something I would want to wear, I wanted it to be more affordable, and I wanted it to be clean.”And the packaging is clean. Something. ”
Blake Brown products are housed in 100% PCR geometric bottles designed by Lively, driven by her love of jewelry. Stacked neatly on shelves, they are designed to blend in rather than stand out in any bathroom. “Everyone said to me, ‘I don’t want to go for a 100 percent PCR test because there can be imperfections,’ but that’s what I like!” Lively said. says, noting that you give your hair a good stir after styling. “The shape is perfect, but the plastic itself is flawed, because all plastic has been recycled before and can be recycled (again).”

The brand also offers a Milky Sandalwood Rich Reset Pre-Shampoo Mask, which I tried out last weekend. Inspired by the iconic Philip Kingsley Elasticizer, this vegan formula is like a hard reset for hair that’s been on a roll. If you apply it to wet hair, leave it on for 20 minutes (or overnight like I did) and then wash it off with shampoo. “[Your hair]will look like it did when it was virgin, before you bleached it or used tools,” Lively says. “Suddenly, you’re walking around all day touching your hair, because it feels like new hair.”

The other three products in the line are traditional styling products infused with scents that rival even the trendiest vanilla and musk perfumes. “I don’t know if it was because I had sisters who grew up in the ’80s, but we were a Moose family,” Lively said. “Ten or 15 years ago, when I wanted to recreate what my hairdresser had done to my hair, all the products were making my kitchen sink a little messy. So I thought, why not use mousse? And it worked.” The result is Blake Brown Cassis Vanilla Glam Mousse. “Whether I have a slicked back and a tight bun or pony like J.Lo, a big curly look, or hot rollers in my hair, “I use mousse first to see if I’m having a blowout, but it just makes it look like I have extensions in my hair,” she says. “This mousse triples the size of my hair and lasts for days.”

Lively tested Amber Vanilla Dry Shampoo under the most extreme conditions: going 7-10 days without washing her hair. “Usually, like when using dry shampoo, you have to use it right away the next day,” she recalls. This dry shampoo formula, which Lively calls “light and beautiful,” doesn’t leave any flakes on dark hair and is easy to brush out.
Bergamot Woods All-in-One Leave-In Potion is misted onto your hair after a shower to infuse it with the scent of bergamot, pink pepper, apricot, and tonka while detangling, increasing shine, and adding extra conditioning benefits. For Lively, the scent of all her products was of paramount importance. Lively worked with perfumers to develop musky, vanilla, and skin-like scents that work well with each other and with any perfume. “I literally don’t want to smell food, but I have a bit of a gourmet palate,” she says. Notes of vanilla, amber and sandalwood are common to all products, and were inspired by her love for the now-discontinued old Burberry scent, Burberry The Beat (available on Amazon I buy them all and put them in the fridge,” she says.

When it came to the brand name, Lively chose a deliberate misdirection by using her father’s last name, Blake Brown, as she wanted to allude to her personal life without capitalizing on her celebrity. “You don’t have to like me or know me to love this brand, because this brand is amazing,” she says.
