In our quest for long, luscious, healthy hair, we try everything to nourish and protect it. And if you’re trying to grow your hair out, you may have already heard whispers about the benefits of certain hair oils. Rosemary oil made a splash on TikTok last year for its ability to promote hair growth, but other oils like jojoba oil and coconut oil can protect hair health and increase blood flow to the scalp. It has been used for decades to promote hair growth.
But with so much information out there (and so many different oils to choose from), it can be difficult to understand which hair oil is best for hair growth. So, we analyzed the frequently asked questions for you and revealed which hair oil is best and how you should use it to make the most of its hair stimulating properties…
Can hair oil help grow hair longer?
The first big question is: Does using hair oil actually make your hair grow longer? As you can probably imagine, the answer is more complicated than a simple “yes.”
Oils can help nourish your hair, soften it, and generally condition and texture your hair, but they don’t specifically promote hair growth. However, it is scalp stimulation that can help hair growth, and this massage technique (when combined with the use of oil) may help promote hair growth.
How to use hair oil to promote strength and growth:
There are many ways to use hair oil in your daily life, and your preferred application method will depend on the length, thickness, and dryness of your hair.
1/ Pre-shampoo treatment
“If you’re using a pre-shampoo oil, or simply applying the oil before washing your hair, be sure to massage your scalp before applying the product,” says textured hair expert Flora. says Rose Obensehi, founder of &Curl. “We recommend starting by massaging your scalp for about 3 to 5 minutes before wetting your hair to stimulate blood flow.” This encourages follicles to open and increases the amount of nutrients absorbed. will increase.
Another pre-shampoo tip is to cover your hair with a shower cap or gentle microfiber hair towel after applying the oil and let the product sit on your scalp for 15 to 20 minutes. Meanwhile, wash your body and complete other shower processes. The heat and steam from the shower opens the hair follicles and increases absorption. ”
2/ Treatment before styling
Hair oils are great as a pre-styling treatment to smooth out flyaways, add shine, and tame frizz before applying heat to your hair with a hair dryer or styling tools. Warm the oil in your hands and then apply it to wet, freshly washed hair from mid-lengths to ends.
3/ Treatment after styling
What are the most common ways to incorporate hair oil into your daily routine? Apply a small amount to your hair as the final step of your styling routine. It’s a great way to moisturize, add shine, and eliminate frizz, but it doesn’t necessarily promote hair growth (though it does help with hair health and overall quality, resulting in less breakage). Masu).
Simply apply a small amount of hair oil to your hair after styling, focusing on areas that tend to get dry, such as the ends. You can also use small drops to smooth out splatters.
4/Overnight mask
If your hair is particularly dry, using hair oil as an overnight mask can help nourish and protect your hair while you sleep. Apply the oil all over your hair before wrapping it in a silk scarf before bed to protect your pillow. When you shampoo the next day, your hair will be so smooth and soft. Note: A word of warning about this: If your hair is healthy, you may end up with greasy hair the next day, even after washing.
