Were you using the app if your TikTok FYP hadn’t been flooded with Blake Lively soundbites over the past few weeks? Lively was treated to a promo appearance for ‘It Ends With Us’ It is no exaggeration to say that it failed to capture the hearts of the public. But sandwiched between the junket clip and the red carpet Q+A were user comments about her new hair brand, Blake Brown, which conveniently launched during the movie’s press tour.
Based on the pop-ups I saw about Blake Brown, I wasn’t too keen on the brand. People had various complaints, but it was more about their own hair experiences than actual issues with the product. Having covered a wide range of hair care fields since 2019, I am well aware that hair care is not one-size-fits-all. For example, one product that works for me may have completely different results on my mom’s hair.
The Blake Brown beauty team sent me some samples of their hero products ahead of their launch, so I thought I’d try them out for myself. I probably wash my hair about once every 7-10 days, so if I’m going to do it, I have to make it count. I thought I’d dive into Blake Brown. As per the approval from the internet, the first thing I noticed was the scent. My first impression was that it was elegant, feminine, and luxurious without being too overstated.

Previous collections include a fundamental selection (nourishing and fortifying shampoos and masks), as well as pre-shampoo masks, leave-in sprays, dry shampoos, and mousses. One of the first things I noticed was that there were no hero ingredients listed, nothing that stood out. Brands are usually innovative and trend-setting, so at first I had the impression that it was just a celebrity beauty brand.

My package came with Fundamentals, a leave-in spray, and a wooden comb. Since I had just dyed the roots of my gray hair, I thought Nourishing would be the perfect post-color treatment. The packaging is boxier than other hair care products I often use, but it’s definitely noticeable when I’m in the shower. I rinsed out the Santal-scented Fundamental Nourishing Shampoo twice, followed by the Fundamental Nourishing Mask. On the first rinse, I didn’t notice anything amazing, but once I started combing my hair with the gift that was included, I started to notice a difference in the softness and detangles of my hair after washing – especially the leaves. After spraying – with spray.
The big challenge will be styling. My hair is thick, coarse, curly, and very difficult to style, so I don’t wash it often. While I have to give credit where credit is due, I should mention that the first time I used the GHD Duet Style brush, it gave me a blowout-like finish using the wet-to-dry tool. That being said, certain products, fancy brushes or not, can weigh down your hair and leave it greasy or completely dry. My hair was completely hydrated and soft and never felt greasy or lacked volume.
In addition to that, I went 10 days without washing my hair and it remained pretty shiny and oil-free for over a week. I can’t say that waiting so long between washes was a good thing, but I was relieved to know I could do it without any problems. Plus, all the products I used smelled like high-end Le Labo perfumes, so that’s a plus for me. (Incidentally, there are tons of Reddit threads searching for fragrances that smell like Blake Brown hair products.)
Do I like Blake Lively based on her public persona? No, but do I like Blake Brown? Honestly, yes.
