For years, I’ve been trying to effortlessly achieve Carrie Bradshaw curls, but always failed (literally) along the way. After spending countless hours and money, leaving me with greasy, flat hair, I decided curl products just weren’t for me. But this product has proven me wrong.
Most days, even when I think I’m having a good hair day, I turn around and see a frizzy, messy mess at the back of my head. Other days, I just tuck my hair back in a ponytail to avoid the hassle and call it a day. My hair is very fine, even when curly, so any curl creams, oils, or mousses I use end up weighing my curls down. Thankfully, I tried Rizos Curls Curl Defining Cream and haven’t had a bad hair day since (hopefully), and it happens to be a Shop TODAY Beauty Awards winner.
Rizos Curl Curl Defining Cream
Seamlessly adds volume and texture
Curl creams are typically a staple in many curly hair regimes, but I wasn’t sure how to find one that would work for my fine hair. To be honest, I went into this experience without much expectation, as the bottle and cream felt just like many others I’ve tried before. After countless discussions with friends about “do you diffuse?” and “have you tried popping?”, I was frustrated and wanted to pull my hair out. However, this cream focuses on locking in moisture in your hair by adding volume to your roots and enhancing your natural curl pattern without looking oily. The brand states that aloe, shea butter, and coconut oil are the main ingredients, which give it a tropical scent (thankfully not too strong) and lasting shine.

The brand recommends using a quarter-sized amount on damp hair and massaging it through. After doing this, thick curls were already starting to form in my hair. I flicked my hair up once or twice and it looked like my hair was curled just like it was when I was a kid. I like to air-dry my curls, but you can also use a diffuser to add volume and set the curl pattern in place. After air-drying for about an hour, my hair was noticeably shiny and super curly. I felt like a new woman. I stared at this new me in the mirror for about five minutes and then walked around my apartment. I had a lot of people compliment my curls and even said, “Wow, what did you do?”
I like to shower at night, so I made sure my hair was completely dry before putting my head on the pillow. I was a little disappointed when I woke up the next morning to find that my curls had lost their volume, but then again, I had just slept for nine hours. If I had curled my hair or put something protective over my curls, I think they would have retained their volume. For best results, I recommend using the cream after your morning shower, or dampening your hair in the morning and working a small amount through your hair before going out to revive your curls.

An unexpected bonus
The last thing I like to do after a long day at work is brush my hair. Usually, by the end of the day, my curls are frizzy, frizzy, and tangled. This curl cream kept the natural pattern intact, so I was able to quickly brush my hair out after the shower. I felt a bit like Rapunzel in the moment, whereas before, I felt like I was constantly fighting my hair. This cream has saved me a few minutes of haircare time and cut my overall styling time in half. Usually, it takes a few tries to get the curl pattern right in my bangs, but this cream naturally tamed the curls, saving me a ton of time overall.
Overall, this curl cream exceeded my expectations and has become a part of my routine. The addition of coconut oil adds shine and keeps frizz at bay on those slightly warmer days. I can now safely say that it’s not your hair that’s the problem, it’s the curl cream you’re using.
