Cook Up Curls is just one of the latest student-led brands to hit LSU’s campus, specifically targeting black hair care. The brand’s founder and CEO, senior Diana Williams, launched the brand as a freshman in 2021 after suffering severe damage to her own hair.
After finding few resources for caring for her black hair, Williams decided to make a “drastic cut” and start her hair journey over again.
A biochemistry major herself, her passion for both cosmetics and science led her to partner with Black cosmetic chemists across the country to design her first products.
Fast forward to 2024, and Ms. Williams is taking the LSU community by storm by offering a variety of oils and curl creams specific to black hair textures and ensuring other students have more resources than she does .
