Hailey Bieber isn’t letting social norms stop her from going blonde. Well, that might be a bit of an exaggeration, but the 27-year-old model broke with the annual fall beauty tradition.
While spring tends to bring about more blonde hair makeovers, the transition to pumpkin spice latte season is doing the opposite. Starting around mid-September, rich brunette shades will be making a comeback in trend reports as hardcore blondes begin to embrace cool, cozy tones. Look at Gigi Hadid. I recently went a slightly darker shade of blonde than I’ve been sporting all summer.
But there are some solid brunettes choosing to go blonde this fall, including celebrities like Kendall Jenner and more recently Hailey Bieber. While she stuck to her usual brunette tone during her pregnancy, the new mom is changing up her look.
On Sept. 28, Bieber revealed that she went “light for fall” with a structured blonde lob, with deep roots and soft blonde babylight dimensions. She shared her new look on her Instagram Stories with a casual selfie wearing very minimal makeup and twisted seashell glasses.

Her roots are a little closer to brunette than blonde, so some might describe her appearance as “cashmere blonde.” For those who haven’t heard, “cashmere blonde” has been a popular shade of fall/winter blonde for several years now, along with the brunette “expensive brunette.”
London hair colorist Gemma Smidmore describes Cashmere Blonde as a “lightweight, luxurious blonde” that achieves “a blend of cool and warm tones in the hair with very fine, subtle, tiny woven lights”. I expressed it. The best thing about it, Smidmore said, is that it’s “very finely knitted when it’s born, so it’s very permissive to regrow even when it’s still growing.”
Sounds like Hailey Bieber’s new tone to me! I’ve successfully avoided peer pressure among blondes over the summer, but I have a feeling I’ll be lighter in the fall.
