Cate Blanchett was never afraid to take fashion risks. Do you wear your pearl necklace off the shoulder instead of around your neck? She’s been there and done that. How about a halter top made from 102 real silver spoons? Check. And that blazer made from recycled spoons? Check, check.
But her appearance at the premiere of her new film Rumors on Saturday at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall during the New York Film Festival may be her boldest yet. For this occasion, Blanchett wore a fringed shirt with padded shoulders and a hemline made entirely of bright blonde hair extensions. The color of the top perfectly matched Blanchett’s real hair, which was styled into a sleek bob with a middle part.

She paired the tousled shirt with a chunky gold chain necklace, black pointy-toe heels, and her favorite black leather pants. Blanchett has been spotted wearing those exact pants several times, including at the 2024 Albee Awards ceremony two days earlier.
She attended the ceremony with her 22-year-old son, Dashiell, wearing a black Louis Vuitton sequined cape top with an asymmetrical silhouette and golden buttons and draping at the shoulders, paired with classic trousers. She accessorized with a black boxy clutch and a gold pinky ring.

Dashiell, on the other hand, opted for a more traditional black tie, pairing a dark double-breasted blazer with pleated wide-leg trousers and a silk tie.
