If you’re finding it hard to grow your hair out, a doctor has revealed that just changing your hair washing habits could make a big difference.
Hair loss or lack of hair growth can be very frustrating, especially since there are so many products on the market that claim to work, but where do you start?
One doctor suggests that adding a teaspoon of coffee to your shampoo can significantly boost hair growth. Dr. Janine Bowling explained why on TikTok.
The most common type of hair loss in both men and women is androgenetic alopecia, also known as AGA. “For men, it’s called androgenetic alopecia, and for women, it’s called female pattern baldness,” she revealed.
In men, she said, “it usually starts around the temples,” and “over time the hairline recedes, creating that distinctive ‘M’ shape.”
The hair on the top of the head also becomes thinner; in women, hair loss typically occurs on the top of the head, and gradually the hair becomes sparser and sparser.
“So caffeine is proven to help hair growth,” she said, displaying research on the screen that supported her claim.
“My tip here is to add a teaspoon of ground coffee to your shampoo when you shampoo your hair, then rinse,” she advised.
Dr. Bowling added that it is “great for dark hair” because it “darkens the hair a little.” Expect to pay around £1 for a basic jar of instant coffee at your local supermarket, but branded products can cost a bit more.
One commenter asked, “Do you put it in the shampoo bottle when you wash your hair, or do you put it on your hands with the shampoo?” Dr. Bowling responded, “You can get it with your shampoo.”
Another person shared, “I put rosemary essential oil in my shampoo and my hair grew back. I’ll try the coffee too. Thanks!”
