What started as a chat with top Irish hairstylist Dylan Bradshaw evolved into a six-month journey that became the subject of this beauty review.
It wasn’t an intentional overhaul, it was a hair change that started with a haircut and ended up with a color change, none of which I decided on.
This isn’t normal for me, but after starting in May of this year, it felt exciting to keep going with this new look. To be honest, it didn’t get off to a very good start.
hair changes

Two weeks before my first haircut, I attended a celebration and let my hair grow out for the first time in a while. It had grown more than it had last month and looked smaller and thinner. My roots were damaged and I knew I needed a haircut soon and some color.
I had an eventful haircut week, going for a Dyson press strip on Wednesday and Thursday, getting Invisalign fitted on Friday, and getting an eye lift on Sunday (although I had a few uneventful weeks). So who knows why I ended up getting a haircut at Dylan’s Salon on South William Street on a Wednesday morning, but that’s probably where this beauty review started.
short & sweet

It was rather his schedule that determined his appointment that day, as Dylan is always in great demand. I was heading to the airport shortly afterwards, and when he combed the length of my hair, no one was more shocked than me to see that I looked like I had two hairstyles. It was. One is a short bob and the other is a long tousled end underneath. Naturally, I blame this entirely on the nail clips, but I get his point. The edge (about 6-7 inches of the nail) simply needed to be removed.
So off they went and I was left with a very chic and sharp blunt bob that I wasn’t sure I could style the next morning in London, but worse happened to me lol ). But Dylan wasn’t finished with his transformation and told me he didn’t want me to dye my hair for the summer.
hair color change

After I got up from the floor, I could tell he was serious. I already had to color it, but if the roots were muddy, this would be terrible again. I think my jaw was on the floor, but he explained that he could only change my hair if I could handle it decently.
I knew what he meant, but this was going to be a long trip and I didn’t know what he had planned. So I agreed to go along with it and bought some hats. Don’t get me wrong, I wanted to know what he had planned, and seeing the roots almost kept me hooked all summer. What happened next was unusual.
natural blonde

I’m a highlighter. I don’t know for sure, but rather than hide those pesky roots, Dylan planned to incorporate them into my hair. In a cold panic, I was convinced that I was turning to the dark side and had no idea how this would suit me, even though I am naturally blonde.
My hair color makeover was booked for the beginning of September (before the holidays, even beauty reviews have their limits for women) and Dylan’s colorist and K18 ambassador Sam Reddy Taught me a new process to dye my hair. Basically, my natural hair color (and the silver hair I have) is integrated with the blonde, but in a different way than before, in a babylights scenario that’s less damaging than regular highlights. It will be close to.

It’s safe to say I was relieved to have some bright face-framing highlights in the mix. Besides improving the health of your hair, this dyeing process had another big benefit. This means that as your hair grows, the roots become less noticeable.
Since there is no border, regrowth should be smoother and less noticeable, and the coloration should last longer. This will give you healthier hair. It’s been a month now and I’m writing this beauty review and you know what? Dylan was right. Even if you have messy hair like mine, healthier hair is possible. Can you see my roots peeking out? Not really, but I think it might be Christmas time before I rush up South William Street to do it all again. This beauty review took me 6 months to create and I’m so glad I did!
