Country music star Garth Brooks has been accused of sexual assault and battery in a lawsuit filed by Jane Roe, who claims she worked as the award-winning singer’s hairstylist and makeup artist.
The complaint, filed Thursday in state court in California and obtained by CNN, says the incident allegedly occurred in 2019. She alleges that Brooks once raped her while on a business trip.
“Over the past two months, I have been bombarded with endless threats, lies, and tragic stories about what my future will be if I don’t write a multimillion-dollar check,” Brooks said in a statement to CNN late Thursday. ” he said. of dollars. ”
“Hush money is still hush money, more or less. In my mind, it’s me admitting something I can’t do myself, something ugly that no human being should ever do to another. ,” he added. “We filed a lawsuit against this person almost a month ago against extortion and defamation. We filed anonymously on behalf of both families.”
As CNN first reported, prior to Ms. Roe’s complaint, the anonymous celebrity plaintiff (now revealed to be Brooks) named Roe, according to an earlier complaint filed as “John.” He reportedly tried to prevent her from repeating her claims publicly and vehemently denied them. Do. ”
Law began providing hair and makeup services for Brooks in 2017, according to the complaint, and the complaint says Law was first hired in 1999 to do hair and makeup for Brooks’ wife, Trisha Yearwood. It is said that
CNN has reached out to Yearwood’s representatives for comment.
In addition to sexual assault and assault, the lawsuit accuses Brooks of repeatedly exposing his genitals and buttocks. Talk about sex with Law and share your sexual fantasies. Change your clothes regularly in front of Law. Sending sexually explicit text messages.
In her filing, Roe said that in 2019, when she went to Brooks’ home for work, Brooks came out of the shower naked, “grabbed her hand and pressed it against his genitals,” and engaged in a sexual conversation with her. It is alleged that there was an incident in which he allegedly did this. Explicit and vulgar language.
In another incident in May 2019, the lawsuit alleges that Brooks raped Law in a hotel room during a work trip to Los Angeles where she was recording a Grammy tribute performance.
According to the complaint, Brooks and Rowe traveled to Los Angeles on Brooks’ private jet.
“Normally, there were other passengers on Mr. Brooks’ private jet, but in this case Mr. Roe and Mr. Brooks were the only passengers,” the complaint states. “Staying at a hotel in Los Angeles, Ms. Roe couldn’t believe Brooks had booked a one-bedroom hotel suite and she didn’t have another room.”
Upon arriving at the hotel suite, Lo claimed the country singer “appeared completely naked in the bedroom doorway.” According to Lowe’s complaint, she felt “locked in the room alone with Brooks.”
After the alleged rape, Rowe claims Brooks frequently shared sexual fantasies with her and groped her. The complaint says Brooks made “repeated statements” about having “a threesome” with his wife.
In his complaint as Plaintiff John Doe, Mr. Brooks claims that after denying Mr. Law’s claims for “payroll employment and medical benefits,” Mr. Brooks filed a “confidential” complaint alleging sexual misconduct by Mr. Law’s attorney. He claims to have sent him a demand letter.
“Defendant’s allegations are untrue,” Brooks’ previous lawsuit said. “However, the Defendants believe that such false allegations have caused significant damage to the Plaintiff’s reputation as a decent and caring person, caused unavoidable damage to his family, and destroyed his career and livelihood. She is well aware of the irreparable harm that will result if she follows through on her threat to “publicly file” a trumped-up lawsuit.”
Roe’s attorney told CNN that Brooks’ “efforts to silence my client through the filing of a pre-emptive complaint in Mississippi amount to nothing more than an act of desperation and attempted intimidation.”
“We are confident that Mr. Brooks will be held accountable for his actions,” attorneys Douglas H. Wigdor, Jeanne M. Christensen and Haley Baker said in a statement to CNN. “We applaud our clients for their courage in moving forward with the charges against Garth Brooks. It shows that it also exists.”
