Nahm/Melbourne rock quartet Asteroids lean into the nostalgic bliss of yesteryear alternative rock with their latest single ‘Butterfly Hair Clip’.
The new song, released on Friday, October 4th, is the group’s first new music in nearly six months, capturing a frenetic pop hook and combining it with a classic ’90s-influenced approach to alternative rock. It emphasizes their tendencies.
Filled with the unique sensibilities that made the genre so beloved in its heyday (smooth vocals, sophisticated riffs, distortion-laced aesthetics, etc.), the group finishes with a series of inescapable pop melodies. .
According to a press release, “Butterfly Hair Clip” captures all the nostalgic bliss of youthful innocence, recalling when you were 13 years old “hanging around movie theaters, calling friends from payphones, It depicts carefree days spent buying shiny junk. Pocket money.”

Their collaboration with producer Alex Brittan (Kitling) has resulted in an anthemic crossover reminiscent of iconic groups like Verluca Salt and The Donnas, but with lyrics that tend to be more relatable.
Butterfly Hair Clip also serves as the second track to be released from Asteroid’s upcoming EP, following the arrival of Hyundai Excel in May. The single itself was the first new music by the band since their debut, released in early 2022.
In recent months, the group has found themselves playing relentlessly at Melbourne venues, playing alongside groups such as The Nation Two, Cat Crawl and Ze Wisenheimer.
