Rihanna debuted her fresh statement electric red locks via Instagram, giving us a blast of ultimate beauty from the past. The singer and beauty mogul’s latest hair color could have been pulled straight from the 2010s. The vibrant crimson hue is the same as her iconic Loud era. Any chance? Savage X Fenty’s long-awaited Diesel collaboration.
Red hair has always been a statement, but Rihanna has long been credited with bringing it into the mainstream. Her latest waves are much choppier and edgier than the original voluminous waves she sported during her “Only Girl (In the World)” days. Add bold eyebrows and an “It Girl” fashion ensemble and you’ve got a classic Rihanna beauty moment.
“Red and copper tones always come back during the colder months, and winter 2024 will be no exception,” says hairstylist and trend forecaster Tom Smith. “This year’s bright reds have a powdery, slightly sherbet-like quality. They retain the attention-grabbing qualities of true reds, but have a lightness that makes them feel fresh and youthful.”
Looking to try out a statement shade for winter? Here’s Smith’s advice for determining whether bright hues are right for you.
“Whether or not a non-naturally occurring shade is appropriate depends on your personality and self-confidence, rather than skin tone or eye color. This shade attracts attention and gets compliments, so it takes a little bit to enjoy wearing it. It takes boldness. That being said, deeper, richer skin tones tend to look amazing with this acidic red tone.”
I immediately added it to my winter beauty mood board.
