One person has been arrested in connection with the incident and further investigation is underway, PTI reported, citing police.
Hair was cut off and the victim was hit with a hockey stick.
The victim, identified as Urmila Gamit of Songad taluka panchayat, was allegedly beaten with a hockey stick on Saturday evening, the news agency said. The attackers included one woman and three men.
The woman also claimed that her assailants also cut off her hair, said an official at Songad police station.
According to police sources, Urmila was targeted in a public place while returning home on a two-wheeler with her daughter. One of the attackers, identified as Sobna Gamit, accused Urmila of having illicit relations with her husband.
Police said the men, including Sobhna’s son, who were accompanying her, beat Urmila with hockey sticks, fracturing her left arm and injuring her lower back and head.
According to police, the attackers also took away Urmila’s gold pendant and fled.
Immediately after the attack, Urmila was taken to a local hospital. Following her complaint, police registered an FIR and arrested one suspect, the official added.
The incident comes months after a similar incident in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj in which a woman was blackfaced and attacked for refusing to accept the panchayat chief minister’s decision to distance herself from her boyfriend. Ta.
Villagers reportedly attacked a police team that arrived at the scene of the incident and tried to rescue the woman. Three police officers, including the SHO of Hachikawa Police Station, were injured in this incident. Additional police forces subsequently arrived in the village and restored order.
