Rihanna’s magical hands are hot again, this time creating an all-new beauty range: Fenty Hair. Her beauty empire keeps getting bigger and bigger and I was already expecting nothing but great things from her hair care collection (as a naturally curly haired girl with a 3B/C texture, I love Lili’s Red I’ve been inspired by many of her carpet hairstyles – her deep side part at the Black Girls Rock event will forever live in my heart). So you can imagine how excited I was when I received a top-secret invitation to test all new products before their release date, and I wasn’t disappointed with the before-and-after results.
A few weeks ago, when I walked into the Mott New York salon, I was greeted by an adorable Fenty Hair paper cup filled with a warm, steaming matcha latte. While waiting to see Yusef Williams, Rihanna’s personal hairstylist, I got a crash course in all things Fenty Hair, which has been years in the making. We have a lineup of hair care and styling products to suit all hair types and types. Rihanna has always been a leader in creating an inclusive and diverse space within beauty, so her “beauty for everyone” approach comes as no surprise (Fenty Beauty and the iconic 40+ (See our Foundation Shade Series).

Fenty Hair’s main focus is hair health and aims to create strong hair. Each product is formulated with proprietary repair technology to ensure your hair is continuously treated through every step of your routine, whether it’s washing, drying or styling. The standout ingredient is something called Leprenicore-5, a popitre complex made with a blend of amino acids, proteins, and antioxidants, all of which work together to repair split ends, moisturize, and stand up from the inside out. Makes hair thicker. Some of the powerful ingredients are also native to Rihanna’s Caribbean roots, including Barbados gooseberries, upcycled jackfruit extract, and green tea extract.

So, without further ado, let me tell you more about my experience. After a quick consultation and detangle with one of the salon’s stylists about my preferred style (a silky blowout), I was led to the sink to get my hair done. After a warm rinse, the stylist injected a generous amount of Rich One Moisturizing Repair Shampoo into my hair. My first thought was, “Wow, that smells amazing.” I felt it was very moisturizing. This was a huge benefit for me as many shampoos tend to dry out my curls. My stylist also said that it’s very light so I don’t have to worry about it weighing down my curls. The stylist then used The Richer One Moisture Repair Deep Conditioner. And let me tell you guys, this deep conditioner felt so soft and luxurious on my scalp and hair. It also gives my hair more glide and makes it even easier to detangle.

I sat down in Yusef’s chair and it was time to explode. First, I squeezed out the excess water with a towel and massaged it with the Protect Type 5-in-1 Heat Protectant Styler. Heat stylers have become a major part of my curly hair routine, and I was pleased with the lightweight feel of this cream. Protects from heat up to 450 degrees, smoothes hair, removes frizz, and detangles hair. Yousef then divided my hair into four quadrants and began blow drying each section from root to tip. I found that using the Protectant Styler made my hair so much smoother and that the round brush allowed me to easily glide through my curls without knots or tangles.

After blow-drying, he used a flat iron and only did one pass per section. He finished the style by adding voluminous curls to the ends using a curling iron, then used the SideStick 3-in-1 Edge Tool to smooth down my natural hair with Control Type Hair Thickening Edge Control Gel. Ta. And Walla! With just 3 products, you can get luxurious, bouncy, and voluminous pressed silk.
