In the past five years, the number of hair loss patients has exceeded 1 million. In particular, the proportion of female patients is increasing, exceeding 40%.
According to documents submitted on the 2nd by Democratic Party Rep. Jang Jeong-tae, who is also a member of the National Assembly Health and Welfare Committee, 1,115,882 patients have received treatment for alopecia in the past five years.
By gender, there were 627,192 men (56.2%) and 488,690 women (43.8%). In particular, the number of female hair loss patients has exceeded 100,000 every year since 2019.
The total cost of hair removal treatment during this period was 19 billion won. Medical expenses per person increased from 166,000 won in 2020 to 184,000 won last year. Insurance coverage is only available for alopecia areata and seborrheic alopecia. Even if you are diagnosed with alopecia, you will be responsible for the entire treatment cost.
By age group, 244,599 people were in their 40s, accounting for 21.9% of the total. 21.4% (239,688 people) were in their 30s, and 18% (20,683 people) were in their 20s.
