In a press release for Secred, Beyoncé said: “We started by prioritizing the needs of textured hair like mine, along with other types and textures that require more moisture and strength.” I’ve worn it in many different ways: natural, ironed, braided, colored, weaved, wigs, etc. Because I want everyone to have the freedom to express their hair in whatever way makes them feel good. , we started by creating products needed for hair and scalp health.
My first impression when I saw the 8-piece Foundation Collection lined up at the station was, “The greige packaging won again!” But seriously, the atmosphere is luxurious. The surface of each bottle features a custom pebble pattern that mimics the stones of ancient ruins. The formula strikes a delicate balance between a keratin-infused protein treatment and an oil-rich moisturizer. The pitch is all about the global ritual of hair care, and this ritual is a long one.
First, the Clarifying Shampoo & Scalp Scrub ($38) contains purple willow bark, tea tree oil, lactic acid, and microcrystalline cellulose beads. Next up is the Hydrating Shampoo ($30), which has hyaluronic acid in its ingredient list. These are intended to be used as a double cleanser. For conditioning, there are two options: the Moisturizing Deep Conditioner ($38) or the Reconstructing Treatment Mask ($42) with Shea and Murumuru Butter. The reconstitution device includes a patent-pending “bioactive keratin fermentation.” This ingredient combines natural wool proteins, lactic acid ferments, and bioactive keratin from honey, which is said to have sufficient molecular weight to replace lost proteins in hair, penetrate the cortex, and repair weak, damaged hair. ” Visibly strengthens hair, or highly engineered hair,” this is according to the press release, but I’ve heard there is third-party clinical data to back it up. (Due to strict embargoes, Allure was unable to contact an independent chemist for confirmation.) Tina recommends using the conditioner in conjunction with the mask, but the Reconstructing Mask can be used if needed. It is intended for use only. (Four steps forward, but who’s counting?)

The highlight of the line is Fermented Rice & Rose Protein Ritual ($52 for a 4-pack). This is a powerful strengthening treatment that is used every 4-6 weeks after shampooing. This ritual includes two steps and a shaker container ($20, sold separately). A fellow beauty editor of mine called this a “protein shake for hair.” Shake the fermented rice & rose protein powder in water and pour it on your hair. Next, do a silk rinse. After this, use a deep conditioner. Dr. Williams says this multi-layered system is intended to be used as a preventive and maintenance treatment. For example, this was the secret weapon used before bleaching hair on the Renaissance tour. It is clear that this is an experience. As someone who regularly spends 45 minutes in the shower to cleanse, detangle, and deep condition, even I’m a little intimidated by the potential time investment.
