Detectives have found hair in a truck that links an Arkansas man to the disappearance of a 6-year-old girl who went missing nearly 20 years ago. Billy Jack Lynx was identified as a suspect in Morgan Nick’s kidnapping. Nick was last seen in 1995 with friends at a Little League ballpark in Arkansas.
Hair found in his truck provided the clues authorities needed to link an Arkansas man to the disappearance of a 6-year-old girl who went missing in 1995.
Police have identified Billy Jack Lynx as the suspect in the kidnapping of Morgan Nick, who was last seen chasing fireflies with friends at a little league ballpark in Alma, Arkansas.
Lynx died in prison in 2000, and was arrested for trying to kidnap a girl several months after Nick went missing, the Associated Press reported. Lynx was identified by the FBI in 2021 as a person of interest in Morgan’s disappearance.
Alma Police Chief Jeff Poynter told The Associated Press that tests showed hair found in Lynx’s truck belonged to Morgan’s mother, Colleen Nick, one of Colleen Nick’s siblings, or her children. It turned out to be hair from a man.
Lynx was initially identified as a person of interest in the months following Nick’s disappearance, but Lynx denied any knowledge of her abduction and the investigation proceeded. He was driving a red truck at the time of the girl’s disappearance.
Authorities have long maintained that a red truck and white camper were connected to Nick’s disappearance.
Alma Police Chief Jeff Poynter told The Associated Press that police are still investigating Nick’s disappearance and are unsure how he was taken from the ballpark and what happened next. He said there are questions he is trying to answer, including whether he helped in any way to kidnap Morgan or cover up the kidnapping.
Investigators reviewed the preliminary stages of the investigation into Morgan’s disappearance in 2019 and re-examined Lynx when they located the truck he owned at the time.
According to the Associated Press, Arkansas’ Missing Child Alert System is named after Morgan, and her disappearance was featured in a Hulu documentary series in 2023. Colleen Nick has started a foundation to help families of other missing children.
