Talk to your doctor about the hair loss treatment options that are best for you. Here are some non-invasive procedures that may help treat hair loss.
Low-level laser light therapy (LLLT)
This treatment uses a low-energy laser or light-emitting diode (LED) to shine red or near-infrared light directly onto the scalp to stimulate hair growth.
According to a 2021 review, LLLT can significantly increase the number of hairs in men and women with androgenetic alopecia. The authors note that combining LLLT with topical minoxidil may reduce hair loss. Minoxidil is also available as oral tablets by prescription.
micro needle
This treatment uses an instrument with tiny needles to make microscopic holes in the scalp to stimulate the production of collagen and other growth factors that promote hair growth. It also increases the absorption of topical treatments such as minoxidil.
In a small 2019 study of 50 patients with AGA, all participants who received microneedling treatment as a treatment for AGA reported partial or complete reduction in hair loss. Clinical trials also showed improvements in hair density and hair shaft diameter thickness.
Transdermal delivery (TED)
This treatment uses lasers or microneedles to open microchannels in the skin. Delivering topical hair removal drugs directly to the scalp increases drug absorption and effectiveness.
A small 2022 study of 50 people found that the TED procedure, which uses microneedles or a fractional carbon dioxide laser to administer topical medication, is an effective treatment for alopecia areata. This is a type of alopecia that causes patchy hair loss.
