Florence Pugh has garnered attention for her talent, particularly her role as Amy in Greta Gerwig’s Little Women, but she’s also made a name for herself with her hairstyle choices. In an industry where women tend to play it safe when it comes to haircuts and color, Pugh has always challenged traditional styles and opted for originality. After all, it’s not often that young stars in the early stages of their careers show up to the Met Gala with a shaved head.

“Hollywood is so glamorous, especially for women, that it’s hard for audiences to see beyond that,” Pugh told Radio Times about the shaved head in a July 2023 interview (via Allure). “When I don’t have to be glamorous or have a lot of makeup on my face, I struggle to maintain it. That helps the audience. The vanity is gone. That. ‘When the only thing people can see is your real face’… Even at the beginning of my career, I was constantly fighting to control my image. ”
Whether it’s a platinum short cut, a velvet trim, or losing all her hair, Pugh is an icon for accepting who you are. She’s also setting new standards for what beauty looks like. And it doesn’t have to be long flowing hair.

Even before she ditched her long waves, Florence Pugh kept things super cool and super chic. In July 2021, Pugh was spotted outside the Dior runway show at Paris Fashion Week rocking her blonde hair faded into a magenta ombre. Although actors rarely use unnatural colors, Pugh continues to express herself in the most realistic way possible and always proves to be fearless in her hair choices.

Florence Pugh only started experimenting with her hair in earnest after her relationship with Zach Braff ended in 2022, but her hairstyles before then certainly weren’t boring. In December 2021, Pugh attended the world premiere of Don’t Look Up with her brunette hair slicked back. While it wasn’t exactly a mullet (a la Kristen Stewart), it definitely gave off a strong mullet vibe and was an enviable short hair trend to say the least.

Florence Pugh always manages to create unique hairstyles, even when she’s not debuting a super short cut or new color. At the BAFTA Film Awards in February 2023, Pugh wore a coral tulle dress with her hair pulled back in a fan-like figure. This style was paired with short baby bangs.

Florence Pugh shocked fans and onlookers alike when she showed up at the 2023 Met Gala honoring designer Karl Lagerfeld. Not only did she wear a stunning dress and headpiece designed by Pierpaolo Piccioli, but she also shaved her head underneath that (very tall) headpiece. It’s not a short pixie or a last-minute crop, she actually shaved it. Not many people can achieve a bold buzz cut, but Pugh proved she’s one of the few who can.
