Hollywood actor Keanu Reeves, known for his roles in The Matrix, John Wick and Point Break, made his return to professional racing earlier today at the iconic Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
In a tense Toyota GR Cup race that lasted 45 minutes, he had a close call, but narrowly avoided a serious accident on the track and managed to avoid a collision at turn 14 on the first lap.
With more than 35 veteran riders vying for the top spot, the Canadian started the race in 31st place, but worked his way up to 21st place. However, with just over 21 minutes left in the race, Reeves spun off the track at the exit of Turn 9, sending his car skidding across the grass. With another quick evasive maneuver, he avoided a potentially damaging collision and continued the race. In the end, he crossed the finish line in a respectable 25th place.
Despite his problems in today’s race, Reeves will have another chance this weekend in the second race tomorrow. Qualifying and Race 2 will take place at 8:00am and 11:55am respectively.
Reeves, now 60, is used to the adrenaline rush of the circuit, having once competed in the Toyota Grand Prix, a celebrity event in Long Beach. But this weekend, Reeves will share the track with teammate Cody Jones, widely known for his entertainment group Dude Perfect.
The ‘Matrix’ star is also often seen at F1 races around the world and has also appeared in the Disney+ documentary series ‘Brown: The Impossible F1 Story’ where fans can learn more about the incredible story of the Brawn F1 team I was able to do that. In an interview with Give Me Sport, Reeves commented at the time of the documentary’s release:
“When I heard that this team was bought for £1 and went on to win the Championship, I thought, ‘What?’ That’s when it started, and then it became about what the financial crisis meant.” Teams will split up and F1 may well end. As I learned more about it, it became quite a huge canvas, including races on and off the track with politicians and team owners.
“All the driver and team dynamics, as well as the relationship between the engineers and Ross Brawn, are involved in every championship. There are so many cool elements to the story and obviously that year Considering what happened, it was almost impossible not to win.”Extraordinary. “
