Tonight on Dancing with the Stars, contestants and pros took to the stage to perform iconic hair metal songs by Aerosmith, Whitesnake, Twisted Sister, and more. After some mishaps and some “weird” feedback from tonight’s guest judges, two couples were ultimately eliminated at the end of the show.
Week 3 of DWTS kicked off on Monday, Oct. 8, with the couple performing Soul Train hits. Chandler Kinney and Brandon Armstrong are at the top of the leaderboard for the third consecutive week. The three lowest-scoring couples, Reginald VelJohnson and Emma Slater (21 points) and Dwight Howard and Daniela Karagach (23 points), were most at risk of being sent home heading into Tuesday.

The hair metal night began with the opening number of KISS’s “Rock and Roll All Nite,” choreographed by Pasha Pashkov and played by Whitesnake’s Joel Hoekstra on guitar.
Gene Simmons, co-lead singer of the rock band KISS, served as a guest judge. However, there were many opinions on social media overnight about Simmons’ comments. Some viewers labeled him “creepy” due to his sometimes superficial feedback, which focused primarily on looks and appearance.

Danny Amendola and Whitney Carson performed a paso doble to Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ on a Prayer.” The judges all praised Danny’s power and attack. Bruno and Carrie Ann noted that he still needed to improve his technique, and Derek enjoyed his performance, but also mentioned timing issues. This trio gave him 7 points and Simmons gave them 9 points.

Reginald VelJohnson and Emma Slater performed the cha-cha to Twisted Sister’s “I Wanna Rock.” Carrie Ann said she was surprised by Reginald, noting that even though he took fewer steps than the other athletes in the competition, he still captivated everyone. Derek praised his upper body performance and Bruno admitted that he worked very hard on his dancing. They received 6/1 and 5/3 from the judges.

Score: 33 (8, 8, 9, 8)

Chandler Kinney and Brandon Armstrong jive to Twisted Sister’s “We’re Not Gonna Take It.” Derek praised her, saying, “You’re in a league of your own,” and called her one of the best dancers, if not the best. Jean said she was moved by the performance, and Bruno called her a “rock and roll diva.” Carrie Ann pointed out that Chandler also had room for improvement and suggested that he work on honing his movements. The judge gave them 8 and 19 points.
Brooks Nader and Gleb Savchenko
Score: 33 (8, 8, 9, 8)

Brooks Nader and Gleb Savchenko performed the Cha Cha to Poison’s “Nothing But a Good Time.” Bruno praised her “perfect” balance and placement. Carrie Ann praised Brooks’ focus and said she was truly grateful for his performance. All the judges gave her an 8, except for Simmons, who gave her a 9, but there was some confusion after Simmons announced her 10 during the broadcast.
Steven Nedrosik and Riley Arnold
Score: 32 (8, 8, 8, 8)
Total for both nights: 62
Steven Nedrosik and Riley Arnold performed the foxtrot to Whitesnake’s “Here I Go Again.” The judges were pleased with how Stephen had applied last week’s feedback, noting that his frame and timing had improved significantly. Carrie Ann encouraged him to understand his movements better, and Derek suggested increasing his stride length when crossing the floor. They received all eight from the judges.
Dwight Howard and Daniela Karagacci
Score: 29 (8, 7, 7, 7)

Dwight Howard and Daniela Karagacci performed a paso doble to Aerosmith’s “Walk This Way.” “You’re back in the game,” Carrie Ann said of tonight’s redeeming performance. Derek named Dwight the “Comeback King” and Gene said the dance was a “slam dunk”. Bruno’s only criticism was that Dwight didn’t break his hand. Their scores included three 7s and one 8 for Carrie Ann.
Eric Roberts and Britt Stewart
Score: 22 (6, 5, 6, 5)
Total for both nights: 46
Eric Roberts and Britt Stewart performed a paso doble to Warrant’s “Cherry Pie.” Derek said he loved Eric’s determination and spirit, while Bruno admitted there was plenty of substance to the dance, but also pointed out some timing issues. Carrie Ann said she could see him reconnecting with his body and regaining his confidence. Couple scores ranged from 5 to 6 points.
Ilona Maher and Alan Bersten
Score: 26 (7, 6, 7, 6)
Total for both nights: 56
Ilona Maher and Alan Bersten jive to Quiet Riot’s “Come on Feel the Noise.” The judges pointed out some mistakes in her dance but encouraged her not to give up. Bruno said, “I made many mistakes, but my attitude was perfect.” Carrie Ann points out that she’s lost a beat, and Derek urges her to use this moment to come back even stronger next week. The score was divided into 7 and 6 points.
Jen Tran and Sasha Farber
Score: 31 (8, 8, 7, 8)

Jen Tran and Sasha Farber performed a paso doble to Europe’s “Final Countdown.” Bruno said their dance has everything a paso doble requires. Derek praised Jen’s “beautiful, strong poise” and highlighted her impressive way of walking the floor on her knees. The judges gave it 8 points, and Mr. Simmons gave it 7 points.
Phaedra Parks and Val Chmerkovskiy
Score: 26 (7, 7, 5, 7)

Phaedra Parks and Val Chmerkovskiy performed a paso doble to Bon Jovi’s “You Give Love A Bad Name.” The judges pointed out some mistakes in her dancing, and Carey and Bruno pointed out to her that she was dancing very squarely and that some of her movements looked flat. Derek said that overall the dancing felt quite dynamic. The judges gave all but Simmons 7 points, with Simmons giving 5 points.
Joey Graziadei and Jenna Johnson
Score: 36 (9, 9, 9, 9)

Joey Graziadei and Jenna Johnson performed a tango to the Scorpions’ “Rock You Like a Hurricane.” “That was the best male celebrity tango I’ve ever seen,” Derek said, adding that Joey’s bones were very strong and concise. Bruno insisted that this was the way rock and tango was done, cementing Joey as the group’s leader. “It was phenomenal,” Carrie Ann added. Their scores were all 9s.

Eric Roberts and Britt Stewart were eliminated in Week 3 of Dancing with the Stars, along with Reginald VelJohnson and Emma Slater. Monday and Tuesday nights had the lowest combined jury scores and viewer votes.
“This was a very special occasion and she was very special to me,” Reginald told Julian after his elimination. Meanwhile, Emma says she won because she made a new friend.
As for Roberts, he said he has “never had a better work experience” in his professional career. Britt added that she was proud that they broke the ballroom barrier.
