Time Day Spa & Salon (706 Seelhorst St.) in Blenheim offers an elegant, tranquil setting and a unique range of spa, beauty and hair services.
Since purchasing the business in 2017, owner Mike Gonzalez believes he operates one of the top day spas in Washington County.
Mr. Gonzalez’s tenure follows his retirement from Brenham Wholesale Grocery Company following its merger with Grocery Supply Company.
Gonzalez never intended to make a living in the beauty industry, but the former salesman knows one thing: sell.
All he had to do was switch out his groceries for shampoo and conditioner.
“They laid off a lot of their senior-level employees, but I worked there for 20 years,” Gonzalez said of Grocery Supply Company. I looked in the Houston area for work, but I didn’t want to move, so I needed to find something to do here. I found out that this (spa) is for sale. We’re doing good business here. ”
Gonzalez wanted Time Day Spa & Salon to serve as a one-stop shop for those seeking manicures, pedicures, massages and facials.
Its convenience attracts a diverse clientele from both Washington County and beyond.
“Although the majority of our customers are women, we also have many men who come to us for our services,” Gonzalez said. “We have a lot of people from Brenham, but we also have a lot of people who find us from Houston. Washington County is growing, and we have new customers from California and Washington state who just moved in almost every other week. It will appear.”
Thyme not only has a stylish interior, but a quiet and serene patio deck with an outdoor fountain provides guests with a tranquil setting.
Gonzalez said the spa is the only one in Washington County that uses only Aveda products.
Aveda uses natural, plant-based ingredients and emphasizes sustainability and environmental responsibility in its production processes. The brand offers a wide range of products including shampoos, conditioners, styling products, and treatments designed to enhance the health and beauty of your hair.
Gonzalez said this scarcity gives Time an advantage in attracting new customers visiting or moving to town.
“I think the next closest Aveda spa is in College Station,” he said. “Aveda is 99 percent organic and doesn’t have a lot of chemicals in its products. We have a full line and I think it’s one of the best in the industry.
“This is something you can’t get at Walmart, HEB, or Walgreens. It’s the only place you can get it in your neighborhood. People coming from big cities might have gone to an Aveda salon, but we’re They’re happy with what they’re dealing with, so they don’t have to go downtown (Houston).”
Gonzalez said Thyme is also one of the only local salons to offer the HydraFacial, a popular facial treatment that combines cleansing, exfoliation, extraction and hydration in one step.
“It makes your face look as clean as possible,” Gonzalez says. “Nowhere else around here does facials like we do, and I think that helps differentiate us from our competitors.”
In terms of management, Gonzalez stays away from salons and spas and works exclusively behind the scenes.
“I didn’t know anything about the beauty industry, but the girls know what they’re doing. They’re artists and professionals,” Gonzalez said. “I told them to keep doing what they’re doing. I’ll do the back end of payroll and inventory.”
All services are by appointment only by calling 979-421-6044. Mr. Gonzalez assures his patrons that they will receive excellent service from state-licensed professionals.
“If you want a relaxing atmosphere, this day spa is the place for you,” says Gonzalez. “It’s very quiet here. That’s what a day spa should be. I think we’re the only one that can handle all the services someone is looking for in one place.”
