The perfect wavy hair routine for 2A, 2B, and 2C curl patterns.

I love wavy hair. Hopefully it works. On days when your hair is in good condition, you can achieve tousled waves that look like you just got back from surfing, but on days when your hair is in bad condition, you’ll end up with equilateral triangle waves. Wavy hair can be difficult to manage, so I try to style it perfectly, but sometimes all I need to do is tie it up in a topknot or twist it with nail clips.

To learn how to get beachy waves every day and not just luck, I asked a stylist who specializes in waves and coils for advice on wavy hair. Read this article to find out the best routine for waves and the best wave hair routine products to create beautiful waves at home.

First of all, what should you know about wavy hair?

Think of it like this: All waves are curls, but not all curls are waves. If you have waves, you may have 2a, 2b, or 2c hair. “Waves are typically classified as visible S waves, which tend to travel in the same direction all the way from root to end,” says stylist and educator James Lewis of Bumble and Bumble. This is how waves generally work, but all waves are different and some waves are different. Some are more straight, others more like ringlets.

How does a wavy hair routine differ from a curly hair routine?

Waves and curls aren’t all that different, but waves are flat at the roots and wider as they get longer, which can make your hair look triangular, Lewis explains. For this reason, you need to style your hair correctly to make your waves shine.

When it comes to products, wavy hair requires much less moisture than tight curls. Evan Joseph, natural hairstylist, founder of Evan Joseph Salon, and proponent of authentic beauty concepts, says, “People with very curly hair should not use heavy products that can weigh down their waves.” “There is a tendency to do so.” Something that is not sticky. ”

What is the basic routine for creating wavy hair?

Step 1: Cleanse gently

“Good habits start with careful cleansing, keeping your hair clean, weightless, and amplifying your vibrations, so choose a zero-to-low foaming cleanser,” says Joseph.

Step 2: Condition and detangle

From there, choose a silicone-free conditioner. Joseph recommends looking for one that doesn’t contain a lot of butter or oil, as these can weigh down your waves. “Use conditioner in the shower to detangle,” he says.

Step 3: Use a hydrating curl cream

When you get out of the shower, use a moisturizing curl cream that won’t weigh your hair down. “Avoid using heavy creams at your roots, as this can make your hair look oily. Also, avoid pushing product into your hair,” says Lewis. Instead, try massaging or pressing your hair with your hands. ” Joseph recommends using a microfiber towel to dry your hair to minimize frizz and help form waves.

Step 4: Diffuse or air dry

You can let your hair air dry for low-maintenance waves, or you can blow dry your hair for maximum waves. When blow-drying your hair, be sure to apply blow-dry cream to protect your hair from the heat. Whether you blow-dry or diffuse, Lewis recommends sectioning your hair into sections.

“Part your hair into 4 to 6 sections, usually on either side in front of your ears (like a headband), from the parting to the hairline, and twist at the back to separate into 2 or 3 sections (depending on density).” Lewis: “Twist each section to form a rope and either spread the hair out in sections or leave it to air dry.”

Step 5: Increase the volume

After your hair is dry, mix in a volumizing product to add a little more volume and texture to your hair. Spray a little dry shampoo at your roots to give your hair extra lift, or use a texture spray throughout your hair to create a more tousled, calming texture.

Step 6: Protect your waves to last longer

Don’t worry. You don’t have to wash your hair every day to get the waves of your dreams. “Try silk or satin pillowcases or sleeping scrunchies,” says Joseph. If you think your hair needs a little more bounce the next day, try using a curl refreshing spray to revive your waves.
