Many women don’t think twice before rubbing their wet hair with a towel after a shower. But experts say this hair-drying technique is a recipe for disaster.
One dermatologist advised women to avoid this method and instead use an old T-shirt or a special hair towel to dry their hair.
Dermatologist Dr. Dray shared on YouTube the hair habits that “ruin” your hair. She warned women not to rub towels into their hair to dry it.
Experts say, “Some people towel-dry their hair by rubbing it against their hair, but this is the worst thing you can do.
When hair is wet, it becomes more brittle and susceptible to irritation.

“When your hair is wet, it’s more vulnerable to damage. The outer cuticle is very hydrated and susceptible to irritation.
“Rather than scrubbing the hair shaft with a thick towel, we recommend gently wrapping your hair in an old T-shirt.
“This absorbs excess moisture and is even gentler on your hair.”
Alternatively, your dermatologist recommended investing in a towel specifically designed to dry your hair. Dr. Dray recommended Turvey Twist, saying it “works very well.”
She explained that both the T-shirt and the hair towel are “light” so they don’t “pull on your hair and cause breakage like big, plush towels do.”
Experts also revealed common mistakes women often make when it comes to shampoo and conditioner.
According to experts, shampooing can “ruin” your hair’s length. Dr. Dray says, “The main purpose of shampoo is to cleanse the scalp, so instead you should apply shampoo directly to just your scalp.”
“When you rinse off the shampoo, the foam coats your hair anyway, so rinse it off afterwards.”
She warned that applying shampoo all over your hair can cause “frizz, breakage and problems.”
When it comes to hair conditioning, experts have revealed that it’s important not to skip this step, especially if your hair is long.

She explained that shampoos leave a “negative charge” on the hair shaft, which leads to “brittleness and breakage.”
Conditioning products work to “neutralize” the negative charge and alleviate these problems.
The dermatologist said, “Many people with short hair can do without conditioner. People with long hair are better suited. People with long hair need a little more TLC.” .
Women can also eat for luscious hair. Experts say women in their 50s can increase their intake of certain food groups to improve their hair.
