Many women dream of long and enchanting hair, but it seems that they cannot achieve it due to careless mistakes.
A dermatologist who specializes in skin, hair and nail treatments has shared on YouTube the habits that ‘ruin’ your hair. She advised against using brushes or combs when the hair is wet.
Dr Dray claimed that brushing your hair when it’s “soaking wet” is a “bad habit”.
She says, “Never comb your hair when it’s wet in the shower.

“If you have straight hair, be sure to towel dry your hair and make sure it’s mostly dry before you start combing it.
“For straight hair, you’ll find this to be relatively easy to manage; many tangles will actually resolve on their own.
“So if you have curly or more textured hair, you already know that that doesn’t necessarily work for you.”
Dr. Dre advised women with curly hair that it’s okay to comb your curls when they’re wet, but not when they’re soaking wet.
She also recommended using a wide-toothed comb rather than a fine-toothed comb. Tangle Teezer hair experts agree that brushing wet hair can be damaging.
They say, “Wet hair is much weaker than dry hair and is more susceptible to breakage and damage.
“Hair is largely made up of numerous proteins called keratins, which are held within the hair cuticle. You can think of the cuticle as a kind of flexible armor for keratin.
“When hair is wet, protein bonds are weaker. When hair is dry, stronger bonds form.
“When you brush your wet hair, instead of stretching the hair strands and returning them to their rubber band-like shape, the ends of the cuticle (the flexible armor) lift up and break.

“When your hair dries again, the cuticle remains lifted, making your hair feel stiff and damaged.”
“The best and gentlest way to detangle wet hair is to use your fingers, a wide-toothed comb, or a wet hair detangling brush,” experts advised.
However, as Dr. Dray advised, it’s important to choose one that suits your hair type. People with fine, fragile hair should find a wet brush that is specifically designed to avoid damage.
In other hair care news, women were warned that common brushing habits are “one of the best ways to ruin your hair”.
