She’s returning to her childhood neighborhood on the Lower East Side to talk about her incredible life and share a powerful message of hope with others with PIX11’s Monica Morales.
On this Lower East Side corner just off Avenue C, it seems like everyone knows Nadine Ramos. Ramos is the CEO and founder of Lasio Professional Haircare, which means “silky smooth hair” in Spanish.
The company is valued at $25 million and continues to grow.
She launched her multimillion-dollar hair care brand out of a NYCHA apartment. It’s been 15 years since she last visited, and PIX11 News went with her. Ramos says it’s good to be back and feel all the love. Ramos acknowledges that it was a tough journey to make it happen.
As a Latina woman, her love for beautiful hair is what inspired her to enter the beauty industry.
At age 19, she started going to a salon in Queens, where a Brazilian hair treatment inspired her to start her own business. She worked with a chemist to develop a revolutionary smoothing hair treatment.
Her products sold like hotcakes because they offered affordable hair treatments that could cost hundreds of dollars in a salon, but could also be easily done at home.
Now, inspired by her two sons, she has launched a new line of hair care brands using banana oil for a more natural and sustainable look.
Ramos said what saved her was her faith, resilience and love for her community.
