Long before she was Amal Clooney, Amal Alamuddin was already a highly successful international human rights lawyer, representing many high-profile clients, including WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange in Australia, prime ministers, human rights activists, and many journalists in need of protection. But despite her extraordinary career of doing the right thing, it wasn’t until she began dating actor George Clooney in 2013 (and everyone got over the age gap) that people really took notice of her. Yes, a woman who has dedicated her life to making the world a better, safer place had to date a movie star before anyone knew who she was, that is, before anyone who doesn’t actively follow the international legal process knew about it.

Since being thrust into the spotlight thanks to her A-list husband, Amal has perfectly played the role of megastar partner, never missing the mark when it comes to fashion and personal style, while her husband George is often left playing second fiddle to her brilliance.
Amal’s transformation from serious human rights lawyer to wife to George Clooney has been fun to watch, especially since big-name designers love to style her hair. Her hair really stands out. Her natural color is a lustrous dark brown, almost black, but she hasn’t been afraid to switch it up over the years, and she’s nailed the look every time.

Only a true style icon could look this effortlessly chic while speaking with Greek Culture Minister Costas Tassouras during a conference in Athens, and that’s exactly what Amal, then still Alamuddin, did on October 14, 2014. With straight, natural-looking hair, she knows when to keep things professional and when to literally let her hair down and have some fun.

2019: Long, dark layers

On May 7, 2019, Amal arrived at the US premiere of Hulu’s Catch-22 with George on her arm, sporting long, layered hair. Because Amal keeps her hair long, adding layers is an easy way to add volume to her hair. Using product at the roots (which is what she probably does) can add even more volume to her gorgeous layers.

Amal often wears her long hair straight, so when she shows up to an event with curls or waves, it’s hard not to be stunned. It’s not easy to get voluminous curls on straight hair, so it’s safe to assume that Amal didn’t do the curls herself, but instead hired a few pros. Regardless of how the curls were achieved, her hair looked amazing when she attended the 2nd Annual Academy Museum Gala at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures with George on October 15, 2022.

As much as Amal always looks great dressed to the nines, she can also look just as great in casual attire — including her hair. During a casual night out with George at the Polo Bar in New York City on December 13, 2023, Amal let her hair down and dyed it a color that’s very close to the late 2023/early 2024 trend of boule brunette.

2024: Sunlit highlights

As always, Amal totally stunned when she arrived at the 81st Venice Film Festival on September 1, 2024 for George’s film The Wolves. Not only was her dress and overall vibe a breath of elegant fresh air, but she also showed off her new hair color for the first time: sun-kissed highlights. The almost blonde hair was perfectly complemented by her long, pale yellow gown. Needless to say, she outshone George once again.
