Patrick John Flueger sported a long blonde wig and bright red hair when he was a young actor starring in The Princess Diaries, and now he’s debuting a new look as Detective Adam Ruzek in season 12 of Chicago PD.
How to watch
You can watch the Chicago PD season 12 premiere on Wednesday, September 25 at 10pm/9pm ET/PT on NBC.
It’ll be hard for fans not to notice in the premiere, since his hair is a much lighter honey blonde than the typical chocolate brown we’ve become accustomed to over the past few seasons. And while his hair is pretty low on the list of things Ruzek has to worry about on the show, it’s hard not to appreciate the little change.
So what’s in store for Ruzek this season? We don’t know yet, but we can make a few guesses. Find out everything we know so far below.
What’s going to happen to Ruzek in Chicago PD season 12?
Amy Morton (Trudy Pratt) told NBC Insider that the intelligence unit will be busy in the early episodes of the season, without revealing any details.
“It’s not a great start because of what happened at the end of last year,” Morton said. “The first episode, the first two episodes, are incredibly dramatic and there are some pretty horrific things that happen.”
She also hinted at individual storylines for each character: “Someone might get promoted, someone might get married, someone might start a new relationship.”

Oh, and someone (Ruzek) has some new blonde hair. See the photo below.
We can’t help but speculate that it’ll be Ruzek and Burgess (Marina Squerciati) who end up getting hitched. This on-again, off-again couple got engaged for the third time at the beginning of Season 11, but Squerciati confirmed that they’ve officially split up.
“The bait-and-switch with Ruzek and Burgess is over,” she said. “They’re going to go through a lot, but they’re together now. They’re a couple that we can count on. They’re going to go through things that each of them goes through in life and in their marriage, but we’re safe. I think we’re safe.”
Showrunner Gwen Thepigan also confessed to TV Line that the Chicago PD writing team had already been tossing around ideas for a wedding.
“I’m really excited to be on this show,” she said in May. “There are very few moments on this show where I’m really happy. I think it’s going to be fun to write it. There’s definitely the possibility of, ‘Are we doing a wedding next year? Are we planning it? What are we going to watch?’ So I’m excited to figure all that out.”
