FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) – A local mother with ties to a pediatric alopecia organization donated her hair Thursday after a co-worker was recently diagnosed with cancer.
In 2022, Olivia Cummins was diagnosed with leukemia. She lost her hair during cancer treatment.
Cummins’ mother said that’s when Olivia received the wig from Children with Hair Loss, a nonprofit organization that provides wigs to children suffering from medical-related hair loss.
On Thursday, the Kamins worked again with children with alopecia. However, this time, the family says hair donations will be provided instead of wigs.
The hair donation was made to support a colleague of Cummins’ mother who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer.
For those interested in donating hair to Children With Hair Loss, that opportunity is coming soon to Fort Wayne. Next Thursday, CoCo and Ash Salon will be offering free haircut appointments from 5-7 p.m. Hair is donated to create wigs.
