PEORIA (25News Now) – The owner of natural hair salon Hairadox says the water in Peoria is hard and can damage textured hair types.
“They (customers) complain about hard water coming out of their taps at home, and they actually complain about dryness. It can become brittle, it can break,” said Aisha Bilal Ali. .
Bilal Ali defines “hard water” as any type of water that contains sediment, calcium, magnesium, and lime.
“We are just trying to minimize the severity of the water,” Bilal Ali said. “If you have dry hair or feel like you have it on your hair, you need to get it out, so you should use a harsh shampoo when you do that. .”
She added that hard water can be concentrated in minerals such as calcium and magnesium. Washing your hair and body can cause these minerals to build up over time.
One solution she has is a vitamin C filter that separates sediment and minerals and provides an acidic rinse.
As for long-term solutions, attorney Sean Cusack of Cusack & Gilfillan said tenants have the right to have water softeners and filters installed in their apartments according to their rental agreements.
“Your entire contract revolves around the four corners of that lease. The most important thing is to look at it and notify your landlord if you do that,” Cusack said. .
Back at the salon, Bilal Ali said she uses deep conditioning treatments and moisturizers for textured hair to combat hard water.
It can take more time and be more expensive.
