The conditioner was my favorite of the three products I tried, but I was also impressed with the shampoo. I was able to use less than most other shampoos and my hair always felt cleaner and less greasy the next day. Out of the three, I found the mask to be a bit more confusing to use and time-consuming to apply properly, so you may want to skip it if you choose.

Cons
Skin care set does not contain retinol
I really like the Prose face wash. If you don’t want to subscribe, this is the product we most highly recommend ordering a la carte. I also had a good experience with the moisturizer and serum and overall. I’ve tested many skin care lines over my career, including Geologie’s customized skin care products, but Prose is hands down the best in three products: moisturizer, serum, and facial cleanser. We take a simpler approach, with an edited selection. .
I had a good experience with the overall formula, although the face wash was obviously noticeable. If I could, I’d buy the under eye serum, but I think 3 products is the right amount for a subscription service. This was my main issue with Geology, Prose’s biggest competitor in custom men’s skin care. The Geologie set had way too many products for me.
PROSE CUSTOM CLEANSER
This gel cleanser helped wash away all the acne culprits that normally lurk on my skin without over-drying my skin. I chose a nice, refreshing citrus scent. I usually avoid scented skin care products, but I fell in love with the lime-forward Pacifica scent, which also has notes of lavender, lemongrass, and cypress. Fragrance is definitely an area where Prose excels. Additionally, those with sensitive skin or noses can choose unscented options, another benefit of customization.
Prose Moisturizer and Serum
The Prose moisturizer was also a standout product for me. If you like “a little goes a long way” type of products, you’ll love this. Just one or two light coats was enough, but I quickly learned not to apply too much of this. Based on my skin care profile, “Timothy’s Moisturizer” contains Niacinamide, Squalane, Rice Ferment, Lime Extract, and Red Algae Extract. My serum was hyaluronic acid based with added botanicals.
Serum was my least favorite of this trio, but I enjoyed it as well. I didn’t like the consistency as it was a bit too milky for me, but I liked the effect. We wish one of these products contained retinol, but the serum contains bakuchiol, which Prowse describes as a “natural, gentle alternative to retinol.” Masu. Personally, give me retinol!
Final thoughts: Is prose worth it?
So, would I pay for prose? If you want to upgrade from drugstore shampoos and conditioners, please try Prose, which has a good reputation in the hair care field. You can also try it out for a month before signing up for a subscription, making it a low-risk investment.
I think a custom skincare set is a smart investment for anyone who takes their skincare routine seriously (but not too seriously). Add a facial sunscreen with at least SPF 30, and you have everything you need to keep your skin in tip-top condition.
Prose is expensive compared to drugstore products. Seasonal promotions and subscription discounts may reduce your hair care subscription price to $58. If you take advantage of all available discounts, you can get the skin care set for just $73. We recommend starting with a more expensive one-time order and signing up for a subscription if you notice a change in your skin. Plus, Prose sends products to subscribers every four weeks, so you could probably skip every three months. This will allow you to use it for a longer time.
