You’re probably seeing Blake Lively on the news right now. why? She’s currently doing press for her new movie, It Ends With Us (which, of course, has a little drama swirling around it). She also just launched an affordable hair care line called Blake Brown at Target. The latter gets us pretty excited, since the former Gossip Girl star is known for her long, luscious golden hair. If we can make our hair look fuller, stronger, and moisturized just like hers, then join us! Early shoppers are already raving about it.
Blake Brown packaging is made from 100% recycled materials and is designed to look like the imperfections of previous metal. (target)
Who is Blake Brown?
Blake Brown launched at Target on August 4th, but most products are still available online. (In case you’re wondering, Brown is her father’s last name, and she took her mother’s last name, Lively, when they got married.) The line includes two shampoos, two masks, and a pre-shampoo treatment. Contains 8 products: 1 type and 3 styling products. (dry shampoo, leave-in “potions”, mousses). All products are priced between $19 and $25.
“After 7 years in the making, my secret is now yours,” the actress wrote about her new brand on Instagram. “We couldn’t work harder to bring you some great products that speak for themselves. We can’t wait for you to try them.”
Lively admitted at a press event that her products are inspired by her favorite hair care brands, Kérastase and Philip Kingsley, but are more affordable. Also, a notable difference from these luxury brands is that all of Blake Brown’s products are vegan, contain no sulfates or silicones, and are certified “clean” by Target, Ulta, and Sephora standards.
Why is there no conditioner?
Now, you may have noticed that this line doesn’t include conditioner, and that’s because Lively says she doesn’t use conditioner. Instead, she uses a hair mask instead of conditioner. “I switched to a shampoo-and-mask-only system 20 years ago and have never looked back,” she said in an interview with Target. “For me, conditioner is like a mask diluted with water. Masks work for me, so I use them instead of conditioner.”
This shampoo and mask also addresses two main concerns: strengthening the hair and nourishing the hair. Lively suggests switching them up from wash to wash and even bottle to bottle. She says it’s important to both strengthen and nourish your hair. Doing one more than the other can eventually lead to hair breakage.
What scents do Blake Brown products have?
Another important aspect of the product is the scent. Lively said she drew inspiration from the candles she burns at home and her favorite perfumes: Burberry Beats (now discontinued), Tokyo Milk Kabuki, and Votivo No. 96 Red Currant Candle. The Blake Browns fragrance is Sandalwood Vanilla, a combination of vanilla, dry amber, vetiver and sandalwood, and Wild Nectar Santal with notes of bergamot, fig, cardamom and sandalwood.
The fragrances are inspired by Lively’s own home, and both have a slightly woody and musky scent. (Blake Brown)
What do shoppers think about Blake Brown products so far?
With Blake Brown out for about a week, we needed to know: Are people liking it so far? According to Target shoppers (and TikTokers), the answer is yes, but there are some caveats. Overall, they liked the formula and said that their hair felt soft, hydrated, and looked shiny. However, there were also opinions that the scent was too strong. Also, some people don’t like the packaging. I added that I don’t like the screw-on cap because it’s too bulky.
“I absolutely love it,” one Target customer said in a review. “I now use the Nourish Combo for one wash and the Strengthen Combo for one wash and both leave my hair feeling so soft and healthy. I love the scent But it doesn’t feel too strong. Some shampoos require you to go back and forth to make sure your hair is fully lathered, but these shampoos lather very well and last about 4 minutes. I only need 1 part amount and my hair is medium to long.
“I love the scent. I love how the scent stays even after I wash it,” said a fan. “My hair feels so soft. I have curly hair so I didn’t put any product on it to see how my hair would react. Then my curls with no product on Looks pretty good. I think a lot of people don’t like this because of the shape of the bottle…I think it’s okay if you don’t take it off completely, but for me this is definitely not an issue. , so far it’s 10/10.
“I bought the Strengthening Hair Mask and Volume Mousse and used it for the first time last night and my hair has never been softer,” another user shared. “Both are wonderful, clean yet luxurious scents. I haven’t tried the products individually yet, so I’m not entirely sure if one or the other, or the combination of both, worked for me, but… “My hair looks and feels great.” When I woke up this morning, the scent lingered for a while and was very perfume-y (which I like), but for people who don’t like heavy scents, this might be too much. . Volume mousse. ”
TL;DR
Overall, shoppers like Blake Lively’s new hair care line, Blake Brown. Although they like the look and feel of the product on their hair, buyers are divided on the strong perfume-like scent and bulky bottle.
If you’d like to try the product, check out your local Target store or purchase online below. Both hair masks and leave-in potions are currently sold out on Target’s website, but you can sign up to be notified via email when each is back in stock.

What is a pre-shampoo mask? It’s a hair mask that’s designed to be used before shampooing (obviously), but the important thing is that it nourishes your hair and leaves it feeling extremely moisturized without weighing it down. It is to make it softer. If you have naturally oily hair, the brand recommends shampooing twice after use. You can use it once a week or whenever your hair needs extra hydration.
