So after spending seven years perfecting her formula, Blake added a new role to her resume as the founder of Blake Brown, an eight-piece hair collection available at Target that sells everything for under $25. Added. The morning after her big night at the Deadpool & Wolverine premiere (where she gushed about meeting the members of NSYNC and Avril Lavigne), Blake sat down to tell us all about the mane incident.
Why hair?
BL: “The same reason I love this line and the idea of this business is the same reason I’m a foodie: I have to eat, I have to drink water, so I’m going to do something with these necessities. ‘I’ve always been interested in hair. Even when I’m not wearing clothes or wearing makeup, my hair makes me feel something. Like me, hair has always been very important to me.
Please share a little about your hair routine.
BL: “After I did the first movie, my hair was so damaged. It was really bad, like twigs and shoots. I went to the hair salon and they told me that hair has two things: strength and elasticity. I was told that I need a shampoo that strengthens protein and a nourishing and moisturizing shampoo that gives elasticity because protein equals strength and it doesn’t break when brushing. I was told to choose one and use up this bottle and the mask. And the mask – I had heard that the mask was a special treatment, but it was not a substitute for the shampoo, and the conditioner was not. I’m not going to use it.” So, I started using masks almost 20 years ago and now I don’t use conditioner at all. It’s like having a different hair system than what your family wants. I wanted to recreate the system and pattern of using a mask every time I shampoo. You can use a little bit depending on your hair type. I use a little more mask because my hair gets oily. Just run it for 10 seconds depending on the condition of your hair. If my hair needs a little more love, I don’t wash it out completely and leave a little bit of the mask on and put it in a ballerina bun for a few days. While you’re washing it, you’ll think this is a great product, but after 6 months you’ll notice a change in your entire hair. ”
Shampoos and masks from the collection include:
Let’s talk about the rest of the products.
BL: “Leave-in (Bergamot Woods All-in-One Wonder Leave-in Potion, $19) is more than just a leave-in. It smells great. It highlights curls, brushes out messes, and tame frizz. It helps remove them. It’s like magic. Then I use a mousse (Blackcurrant Vanille Glam Mousse, $19). The mousse first makes it look like I have extensions on. Vanilla Dry Shampoo, $20) is amazing, it lengthens my hair but doesn’t make it clump too much. It gives some fill and grip and texture without feeling smudged. It took me about 7-10 days to test out the Milky Sandalwood Rich Reset Pre-Shampoo Mask ($25) until I consulted a trichologist friend.Vegan Elasticizer was next to impossible. The person suggested using seaweed, braiding it and leaving it overnight before washing it out.To me, your hair feels like new hair. , I walk around all day feeling my hair.”
What is the difference between these products?
BL: “I wanted it to smell like something I would want to wear, and at a more affordable price. And I wanted it to be clean, including the packaging. And first and foremost, performance is important. It’s great hair care. That’s why it took us seven years. And for the price, we wanted as many people as possible to try it, so we tested it on family and friends for seven years. It’s time to get it right at this price point. But here we are, and we couldn’t be more proud.”
Where does the name Blake Brown come from?
BL: “My father’s last name was Brown, and he took ‘Lively’ from my mother. My mother is a very shy Southern woman, so I thought that was really cool. My My dad was like, “I’ll just keep your name.” It was nothing, but now he’s always like, “Are you going to take your husband’s name?” I’m not even wondering if they are going to adopt our name? So it’s a way to honor him in a way and I wanted to put my name on it because that name actually remains. For me, I tried really hard, but I didn’t want to rely on my name that people knew because I felt like I was owed too much of a favor because I’m a brand. I wanted people who didn’t know who I was, didn’t care who I was, or hated me to still love this brand because I think it’s so great. . ”
Please also inquire about scents.
BL: “We worked with an actual perfume company to create this perfume. We wanted it to smell woody, like candles and layering fragrances at home. Something I’m familiar with. But I like things like that. So we have different scents in our products that complement each other and are long lasting, especially the dry shampoo. , then the vanilla and the wild nectar Santal, which is just a really moisturizing scent, and that blackcurrant crazy, and the milky sandalwood, which I love. I like scents that are a bit similar. I have a kind of gourmet palette, just like home, food, and scents.”
What is the inspiration behind the packaging?

BL: “I wanted it to look pretty at home. I drew this. I drew these bottles. I wanted them to overlap. This is 100 percent PCR. Don’t do it because it’s going to be incomplete. I asked for it, and when I looked at it, it was faceted like a jewel, and it was all recycled, which is also our purchasing pattern, so my husband bought a completely different set. I’m buying another set, so I have a half-empty bottle left, so it would be even more efficient if I bought the same set.
We will give you advice tailored to your hair.
BL: “I think of my hair in such a way that the more I take out of it, the more I have to give back to it. It’s not like an infinite well.
“My friends who are really worried about their hair. They’re just getting something out of their hair, and the only time they get it back is when they go to the salon once or twice a month or when they wear a mask. They keep taking it out of their hair. “I can’t do something without refilling the well,” which I think applies to everything in life, right? ”
I tried this line and beyond the fact that it smells incredibly good (my husband asked me what the new perfume is!), my fine, curly, highlighted hair feels healthy It looks and feels richer and much softer.
