Jennifer Lopez has been in the game for a long time. She has worked as a dancer, actress, singer, and businesswoman. And just when you think she’s done it all, branching out into new territory, like what she did in Netflix’s upcoming film Atlas. Because she’s not just the star of a sci-fi movie that puts her at the forefront. JLo is also a producer on Atlas, and her production company Nuyorycan Productions is on board to bring this story of AI gone wrong to life.
In the film, JLo plays Atlas, a data analyst with a deep distrust of artificial intelligence. She takes part in a mission to capture a renegade robot played by Simu Liu in a world on the brink thanks to AI. You will be sharing a strange journey with robots. Going in search of this renegade robot, things don’t go as planned and Atlas must put his trust in another robot to save humanity. With all this going on, there’s one thing we can’t help but notice. It’s JLo’s hair.

As Latinos, hair is a very important part of who we are. That’s especially true for people like JLo who have naturally curly hair, even though we live in a world where a seemingly sophisticated straight look is preferred on TV and in the workplace. And aside from Anaconda and Shades of Blue, JLo hasn’t spent much screen time with her naturally curly hair. Interest in her hair was renewed after she released “The Greatest Love Story Never Told” documentary, which she released to coincide with the “This is Me…Now” documentary.
There’s a scene in the documentary where JLo talks about her hair. She said while playing with her hair. I remember when I was 16 and running around the city in the Bronx. A crazy girl who was once wild, without limits, and everything was a dream. ” This created a viral moment on social media that got everyone talking, no matter what platform they were on. Her character has curly hair, so I asked her about that.
“I love my natural curly hair,” JLo told Remezcla when asked about what inspired the decision to give her character curly hair. “I like that[Atlas]has this messy, really thick hair, but she doesn’t care about it at all. In a way, this is who I am.” And how she looks with her curls is deeply tied to who she is as a woman. She is hardened by the loss she experienced as a child and by this brutal robot with whom she shares a past.
JLo continued this thread by saying that her character’s messy curly hair also had something to do with the lack of attention. “[Her curls]were a reflection of not paying much attention to herself, the same way she didn’t get any attention as a child. ‘Blow this out and put a ponytail or something.’ No one was like, “Maybe we should.” there is nothing. They just left her alone. And I think she got wilder as she got older. ” And it is only through this journey of self-love that her character begins to care about herself, where she is going, and what she looks like. This includes her curly hair.

Love, whether it’s the kind her character has for herself, is also something that’s very important to JLo when choosing projects to be a part of. “For me, it’s something I respond to,” she shared with Remezcla. “I react to different things at different times in my life, but the stories I want to tell have a theme, and the underlying theme is usually love.” This is no surprise considering the project was “This is Me…Now” and a musical journey through her own love story.
“Honestly, I think that’s the most important thing in life and in the world. I think that’s the most important thing,” Jennifer Lopez said as the interview came to a close. It was love that drew her to Atlas. And it gives us a new perspective on what drew her to her projects earlier. Be it Anaconda or the numerous romantic comedies she has been a part of over the years. love.
